Understanding the Scores

Last spring, students in Audubon and across the state of New Jersey took the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) test. This assessment is administered to all students in Grades 3 - 11 in Language Arts and Mathematics. It is taken on a computer and is vastly different from the NJ ASK and HSPA tests that our students previously took each spring.

Here's a comparison between the "old" and the "new" tests.

It is anticipated that student score reports will be made available to parents in November. Since this is a new test, it is important for you to understand the resulting scores and what they mean to your child's academic success. We have compiled some of the resources provided by the state that we believe may be most helpful in that regard.

Here's A Score Report Guide that will walk you through individual reports

Parent Resource Website

This website has a number of items you may find helpful in understanding the PARC Test itself, as well as the resulting scores. Here, you can take a sample test, look at a glossary of related terms, and learn more about performance levels and accommodations and find out how you can help your child succeed in school.

Here's another website that offers an explanation of the test results, as well as a video presentation by teachers that walks you through a sample report.
